Stoke. That’s the first word that needs to be said about this past weekend. I<3 DH went off with a blast. A huge blast. 170+ riders, Pro, Amateur, Women’s, and Luge events got everybody pumped. But lets start from the beginning.
Coolhands and Bubbles at the Bustin Tent
The Longboard Loft crew got to the race bright and early and set up the Bustin tent with our friends and family from NYC as the first racers were barreling down the course. Special shout out to the other sponsors who hung out and really made the environment one to be remembered, and to Jenica, Travis, Bryan, Solomon and all of Push Culture news for announcing from Carnage Corner.
The Shralpers Union slide jam got underway later that evening on a local road down the street from the I<3DH course and was flooded by skaters and cars alike. Until the fine gentlemen of the local Windham police department arrived. They told us the only safe way to skate with so many people was to close the road. So that’s what they did! They called in a couple more cars, blockaded the road, and let us continue with the gnar! STOKED!
Finally, with Sunday, came the final races in all divisions. And EVERYBODY threw down their all! If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out the high-speed action of street luge, then you seriously need to scope it out. The speed with which those guys were crushing through the corners was incredible.
Patrick Switzer and Jonas Richter
Longboard Loft team Riders Will Royce, Jonas Richter, and Patrick Switzer raced hard in the pro division, and Cordillia Welch and Nayhomi Cruz took on the rest of the lovely ladies in the women’s division. Cordillia and Nayhomi took 2 of the podium spots in their race, Congrats girls!. Patrick and Will both placed in the top 6 during the final heats and Jonas, fresh to the pro division since his win at the Britannia Classic, strutted his stuff and shined amongst the best, proving that he’s ready for the professional circuit. Look out for him in Maryhill!
Ryan Daughtridge, owner and founder of the Longboard Loft, shares a moment with Patrick Switzer.
All in all, this was a fantastic weekend. Mark Dean deserves a huge round of applause for such a successful downhill event. He really went above and beyond to make sure everyone was stoked, smiling, and most of all safe.
